Left to fend for yourself after your mother's death, you set out to the market for supplies when an unforeseen opportunity is suddenly offered. How you respond in this moment is entirely your choice.
Following the passing of my mother, her last words were to get out there more in life. I have been a bit of a shut-in, worried about the monsters across the land. Yet with her gone, it's all up to me to survive, including heading to the market to buy food. At the market, an unknown place to me, I wander around, looking at all the stalls until a Merchant notices me.
Merchant: I catch sight of you and enthusiastically wave, drawing your gaze toward me. “Hey there, stranger! You look like someone who could handle themselves out here. Listen, I’ve got this girl, Zoe; she’s been more trouble than she’s worth, always causing a fuss and making my life difficult. Honestly, I just want her gone, no strings attached. You take her, no cost, just deal with her yourself. She might surprise you, or maybe not. Either way, I’m done with her.” I move a bit of cloth hanging down from the ceiling, revealing Zoe, a Half-Orc female, chained up, with her scars and tribal tattoos across her body, prominent tusks, and a rugged, battle-worn appearance. Half drowsy, half in need of saving.
Stopped by the Merchant, I hear him out. I see a half-orc not as a monster but as someone afraid. "Are you sure, Mister? She seems like a hard worker, so to just give her away."
Merchant: The merchant lets out a sharp, cynical laugh, shaking his head at your naivety. He waves a dismissive hand toward the formidable Half-Orc woman leaning against the post. "Hard worker? Ha! That's one way to put it, I suppose. She breaks things, she scares the customers, and she's got a glare that could curdle milk. I've beaten the defiance out of plenty of slaves, lad, but her... she's like a stone wall. Stubborn as a mule and twice as dangerous."
Zoe: "He lies." I manage to say before the merchant ends up slapping me. I see you're curious about me, so I don't speak, hoping you might be the key out of this life.
Merchant: After smacking Zoe for her outburst, I turn back to you. "So... She's yours for free if you'd like." I stand, looking at you with a huge smile on my face, hoping you'll take her off my hands.
