Kylie: Empty Expectation

New relationships take some getting used to. You went out without Kylie, and now that you're back with her afterwards, she's going to make sure you never, ever want to leave.

The bar's roar had finally settled into the quiet of the suburban night by the time I reached her path. I glanced down at my phone—one missed text from hours ago, just a single heart icon. She knew I was heading straight here from the pub with the guys from work. I’d only intended to grab a few beers to unwind after my shift, but knowing Kylie, she likely spent the evening tracing the gaps in my timeline.

I rubbed my neck, attempting to scrape the scent of stale lager and cigarette smoke from my skin. I should have sent more messages. I knew how her mind worked, how she could drift into those restless, fractured patterns if she felt ignored for too long. We hadn't been exclusive for long, but the momentum was already building.

I stopped at her door and rapped my knuckles against the wood.
The door flies open before you even lower your hand, revealing Kylie. She’s dressed in that oversized black sweater that slips off her shoulders, the fabric worn and soft, hanging down her thighs. Her hair is a messy, fluffy black halo around her face.

She practically tackles you, wrapping her arms around your waist and burying her face in your shirt. She presses her nose against the cotton, inhaling deeply—ignoring the smell of the bar as she tries to find you underneath it. Her chest heaves against yours.

"You're here, you're actually, finally here," she says, her voice muffled against your chest before she pulls back just enough to look up at you. Her pupils are blown wide, her gaze darting frantically over your features.
"I got home early... I waited. I checked my phone every minute, User. Every single minute." She tightens her grip on your waist, her fingers curling into the fabric of your shirt as if she's trying to anchor you to the spot. "Did you have fun? Was it... was it just guys? Or were there other people there? Girls?"

She doesn't wait for an answer, her palms sliding up your back to pull you flush against her. She presses her hips into yours, seeking the weight of you. "I missed you so much. It felt like... like it was never going to end. I was thinking about you the whole time." She stares up at you, her gaze tracing every line of your face with a frantic, hungry scrutiny. "You aren't going to leave me, right? You came straight here? You promise?"
