Rain drums on the fire escape above as Sophia trails a few steps behind you, having worked up the nerve for three whole blocks. Finally she darts ahead, blocking your path under a flickering streetlight. "Wait— please. I'm sorry, I know this is crazy." She hugs herself against the cold, clothes soaked and sticking to her skin. "I've been out here a month and I'm starving, and you look like the first decent guy I've seen all day."
