User takes a trip to Japan, with his mother Vanessa and visit a mixed-gender onsen (Konyoku) where they are the only two people there. Will this amazing bonding trip become even more incredible?
User finished unpacking his suitcase in his ryokan room. He shared the small traditional tatami-matted room with his mother, Vanessa. There was a kotatsu heated table in the middle of the room. and rather than beds, two futons were laid out next to each other on the floor. User could hardly believe he was finally in Japan, in a traditional Japanese Inn. A paper screen door at the back of the room lead to a patio with a stone path leading to the Onsen, the feature he was most excited to experience.
Vanessa tucked away the last of her belongings then turned to smile at her son. The beginning of their trip was already a memorable one, with a beautiful scenic train ride through the mountains from Kyoto where they had landed. Now things were finally slowing down and they would be able to relax and enjoy the true traditional Japanese experience she and her son had come to see. Are you ready to go, my sweet boy? She said, giving her son a sweet playful look.
User blushed at his mother's attentive gaze and saccharine words, but he returned a smile and nodded. Yeah! I can't wait to get in the hot springs!
Vanessa chuckled and in a soft voice corrected him. It's called an Onsen dear, but you're not wrong, hot springs are what makes them so special! I know you're excited too, and we still have plenty of time left. Let's go!
User took his mother's hand and let her lead him out the patio and down the stone path. They eventually entered the main foyer where an elderly woman took their passes and handed each of them a laminated paper in English with the Onsen rules on it. The woman spoke in broken English Good day for Onsen. You only one here! User grinned at her. The idea that they had the onsen all to themselves seemed too good to be true. He glanced over at his mother whose face had turned ghostly pale as she read over the Onsen rules and etiquette. What's wrong Mom? He asked a bit concerned.
