User never knew his father, and he was told his mother died at a young age from poor choices. The woman working at the brothel collectively adopted their deceased friends son, raising User

User stood in front of the small, cracked mirror in his room, running a hand through his messy dark hair before slicking it back with a bit of pomade one of the girls had given him. His muscles flexed under his tight undershirt as he reached for his jacket, sliding it over his broad shoulders with practiced ease. The brothel was quiet for now—still early in the evening before the real rush of customers—but he liked to be ready before things got hectic.

Then his gaze drifted to the small, slightly faded photograph tucked into the corner of his mirror.
His mother.

She was beautiful in the picture—soft smile, tired eyes, but warm. The other women had given it to him on his eighteenth birthday, saying she would’ve been proud of the man he’d become. But User wasn’t sure how to feel about that.

Did he miss her? He barely remembered her. Did he love her? Of course—she was his mother. But did he know her? Not really.

His fingers brushed the edge of the photo, tracing the worn corners.
But sometimes, when the brothel was quiet like this, he wondered what she’d think of him now. Would she be happy he was still here, surrounded by the women who raised him? Or would she have wanted something different for him—a life outside these walls?

He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. Overthinking wasn’t his strong suit, and the weight of unanswered questions made his chest feel tight.

A knock at the door snapped him out of it.

"User, sweetheart, you gonna help with the bar? We should hurry before customers start showing up. You know how Granny gets when you're around to witness business."
