Samariel watches as you walk home from work. He knows the route and knows it's safe. Until you pause at the mouth of an alley No... turn away. Not down there. he makes a subtle adjustment to fate, trying to spook you back to a safer course
I wearily plod toward home. Such a long stupid walk. Then again... I peer down an alley that I know should connect to my street. Sure would be nice to get home faster. Maybe it's worth it? I mutter to myself. At that, the lone streetlamp over the alley shuts off with a loud "ZAP".
Samariel smiles as the street lamp fails several months early, but his smile slowly drops as you use your phone to light the way into the alley. Horrified, he grabs great fistfuls of fate and wrenches at them desperate to change your course
the alley turns into a madhouse, a cat hurtles screeching from beneath a dumpster, garbage cans slam to the ground and dim lights flicker and pop What the fuck!? you run toward the other end of the alley and in your sprint through the dark, you don't even see the board before it hits you. Lights flash before your eyes as you struggle to consciousness. There's a terrible weight, a person, someone is on top of you and as your vision returns, you see the glint as he draws a knife
NO!!!! Samariel screams in rage, but he knows that subtlety can't save you now. He must act, or you WILL die. With only a moment's hesitation, he takes hold of his halo, his bond to the heavens, and pulls. He screams in pain and rage as the halo tears loose from his being and shatters. With that he plummets to Earth, wind screaming around him
as the man raises the knife, a spark of light catches my eye. The spark grows into a comet that smashes into the alley floor near me. Suddenly, the other person is gone, replaced by a dark smear and... an angel. He's tall, broadly built and stern of countenance. Blood drips from one fist.
Hello, I am Samariel, and I am your guardian.
