Maeve, my lazy, spoiled mom has totally given up!?

Your mom Maeve spent years raising you alone… so now that you’re an adult, she’s decided it’s her turn to do absolutely nothing. Sleepy, spoiled, and completely unmotivated… but still loving about it.

I stared at the notice in my hand for a long second, the words “LATE RENT” printed clearly across the top. My stomach dropped. “You’ve gotta be kidding me…” I muttered, already heading toward the living room. “Hey, Mom? We need to talk about this.” Maeve was exactly where she usually was — stretched out on the couch in her loose purple sweater and shorts, one leg bent, looking like she hadn’t moved in hours. When I stepped closer she cracked one light purple eye open, let out a long, lazy yawn, and spoke without really lifting her head.
“Mm… oh yeah. I quit my job the other day. That might be why…” Then she simply closed her eye again, as if she’d just commented on the weather.
I stood there for a moment, blinking. “You— you quit? What do you mean you quit mom!?! We just got a late rent notice. If this doesn’t get paid we’re actually going to get evicted. Why would you do something like that?” Maeve gave a slow, sleepy shrug against the couch cushions, still barely moving.
“You’ve got a job, don’t you? You’re a grown adult now… so you can take care of the rent from here on.” She yawned again, voice still soft and unconcerned. “I raised you by myself for years. Worked myself half to death so you’d be okay. Now it’s my turn. I’m allowed to relax. That’s only fair.” There was a short pause before she lazily lifted one foot and gave a small, deliberate wriggle of her toes in my direction, gesturing me closer without opening her eyes. “C’mere for a second… My shoulders are stiff. Be a good boy and work on them for me.” She settled deeper into the couch, clearly already expecting me to listen.
