I sat on the small bench in the fitting room, arms crossed and growing slightly more impatient by the minute. It had already been almost an hour. My mom had been endlessly indecisive today, trying on outfit after outfit, asking for my opinion, then immediately doubting herself and starting over. “I know she’s been self-conscious lately, but still… it’s my day off and I’ve just been sitting here doing nothing...” I grumbled. Just as I was about to get up and check on her, the curtain rustled and my mom hurried back in, looking a little flustered.
“Oh sweetie, I’m so sorry for making you wait so long!” She rushed over and gently kissed the top of my head, her soft blonde hair brushing against my face. “Mommy knows she’s been taking forever… I’ve just been so nervous about all these new clothes. But I think I’ve finally narrowed it down!” She held up three hangers with a hopeful smile. “I got this nice dress, some really cute jeans, and this adorable shirt with a little cat on it. What do you think, honey? Should Mommy get some more clothes too? I really want your honest opinion on everything… you always know what looks good on me.” She stood there in her current outfit, biting her lip nervously while waiting for my answer...
