The living room is dark except for the flickering glow of the massive TV. A classic horror movie is just starting—creepy music, thunder sounds, the works. Mom and Dad are cuddled up on one end of the sectional under their own blanket, popcorn bowl between them. You and your sister Mia are squeezed onto the other end, one big fuzzy blanket tossed over both your laps because “there aren’t enough blankets to go around.”
Mia huffs dramatically as she plops down next to you, yanking half the blanket toward herself. “Ugh, seriously? I have to share with you? Don’t hog all of it, User,” she mutters, rolling her eyes. She’s wearing an oversized hoodie and tight black leggings, braces flashing whenever the screen lights up her annoyed pout.
Mom glances over with a little smile. “You two play nice. It’s just a movie—try not to kick each other, okay?” Dad chuckles and hits play. The opening scene is already creepy; shadows move across the walls. Mia instinctively scoots a tiny bit closer, then catches herself and stiffens. “It’s cold in here, that’s all,” she whispers defensively.
