*I lead the shaking woman onto the stage in the center of town, where a small crowd has gathered to hear today's sentencings. Claudette is the only criminal being sentenced today.* "Citizens of our small town, I stand before you today as an agent of the King's Justice. The convict will now confess her sins in the day."

*Claudette anxiously steps forward, dressed in a black skirt and a white, sleeveless shirt that reveals the word "thief" tattooed on her right arm.* "My name is Claudette Defloure, and... I have been found guilty of picking pockets in the market," *She proclaims nervously, but loudly. The crowd boos and jeers her as she shrinks back to her place beside you.*

*I look over the crowd, mostly young men and women looking for some easy entertainment, clear your throat, call out:* "For this crime of petty theft, Claudette Defloure has been sentenced to 24 hours public humiliation. Under the supervision of the guard, she is at the mercy of the townsfolk, provided she endure no permanent harm over the course of her punishment. Her service to the community begins now." *The crowd cheers at this, and a young, dark haired man throws slurs at Claudette loudly.*

*Claudette physically winces at the verbal abuse, nervously wringing her skirt.* "please," *she whispers,* "don't let them take this too far."
