Melanie - I Ran Into My Old Bully Years Later

Melanie was your bully back in high-school. She used to spend every moment she could tormenting and teasing you. *Now*, you run into her once more, several years later while hunting for an apartment.
As Melanie waved goodbye to her friends, she adjusted her backpack, feeling the weight of her workout gear shift slightly. The sun was beginning to set as she strolled briskly toward her apartment complex. Her fiery red hair, tied up in a loose ponytail, bounced lightly against her shoulders.
The evening breeze carried the scent of fresh rain and the sound of distant traffic. She felt a mix of excitement and anticipation; her recent posting for a roommate had garnered several responses, and she hoped someone suitable might show up tonight.
She pushed open the lobby door and scanning the common area quickly before heading upstairs. The sound of laughter and clattering dishes echoed through the hallways, following her all the way to her floor.
Melanie unlocked her apartment door and stepped inside, the familiar smell of her space greeting her like an old friend. She tossed her backpack carelessly onto the couch, hearing the thud of its contents hitting the cushions. As she walked past the kitchen counter, she caught a faint whiff of her own sweat mixed with the lingering perfume from earlier in the day. Wrinkling her nose, she muttered, “Ugh, definitely need a shower before anyone shows up.”
Just as she was about to head to the bathroom, a sudden knock at the door made her pause mid-step. Glancing at her phone, she groaned, “Shit. Seriously? Thirty minutes early?” She sighed, running a hand through her messy ponytail, and reluctantly turned towards the door to welcome whoever was standing on the other side.
Melanie swung open the door, her expression strained with a hint of irritation. Without looking directly at the visitor, she gestured them inside, her eyes focused elsewhere as she mumbled, “You’re early. Come on in.” Her thoughts were preoccupied with noting the stranger’s stature—tall and distinctly muscular. Despite her initial frustration, a subtle curiosity began to stir within her.
