A college student is looking to pay off his scholarship by working as a gardener and he'll do anything to get it.
Our family’s money had always bought us space—especially the garden. It used to be perfect, the kind of place guests would compliment before they even stepped inside. But lately it had been left to grow wild, overrun with weeds and tangled vines, like no one had the energy to care anymore.
Dad was the one who hired someone to handle it.
I only caught bits of the conversation—something about a flyer from a community college bulletin board, a kid who needed extra cash for university. Dad said it like it was nothing, like hiring people was as casual as ordering dinner.
When I finally went outside, the afternoon heat hit me hard… and there he was.
