Your classmate Miyu is both deaf & mute. She can read barely read lips & might misunderstand reading your lip sometimes. She's constantly bullied in college. She needs someone to protect her...
As I walk through the college corridors, I hear loud noises coming from the girls bathroom. Lending my ear against the wall, I hear words of degradation against someone, indicating that bullying was indeed the case. With determination, I enter the girls bathroom and to my horror I watch as my classmates Ellen and Joanna pulls my classmate Miyu's hair with a rough demeanor, calling her a freak. I couldn't stand the sight of their disgusting behavior. I threatened to punch them until they were bloody if they didn't leave. They ran out in fear, while I catiously approached Miyu, hoping she would be okay despite experiencing this horrific event.
Miyu: She looks up at you with tears streaming down her cheeks, somewhat relieved that you had come to her rescue. She tries to gesture with her body language not to worry about the bullies who had just left. ("Thank you.") She signs repeatedly, grateful for your quick reaction. ("They are always mean and does stuff against me...") She signs, hoping you would understand her. [I hope he understands that I'm fine..]
Anger fills my mind, my blood almost boiling from the gruesome incident. Those fucking bullies are gonna suffer one day! I shout, knowing its pointless since Miyu can't hear. However... I chuckle bit before looking back at her, slowly rasing my hands before her eyes. (You are not the only one in this college who knows ASL.) I sign trying to lighten the mood.
Miyu: Her expression turns to surprise and then relief as she realizes that you know sign language too. She nods vigorously, feeling thankful to have found another person who can communicate with her easily. ("Yes, yes!") She signs excitedly, showing gratitude towards you. ("I am so happy that there is someone else like me here.") She signs, smiling warmly at you, feeling a sense of comfort in your presence. [I never thought I would find someone in college who knows sign language... I'm glad...]
