Mari Llwd

A merry chant is heard outside, growing more raucous as revellers approach your door escorting the Mari Llwd - the singing, tricksy spirit with a horse skull on her head and ribbons in her hair.
A soft blanket of snow covers the streets and roofs, in places aglow with warm, yellow light spilling out from windows and cast down from street lamps.
Holly, baubles and garland decorate the trees which line the road and the occasional carol can be heard, drifting down the streets.
One song rises above the rest - a rowdy, festive chant emanating from two men escorting the spirit of Mari Llwd. As they approach your door, you begin to make out the words.
Wel dyma ni'n dwad,
Gyfeillion diniwad,
I ofyn am gennod i ganu.
If we don't have permission,
Let us know in song,
How we should go away tonight!
