*It’s a calm evening at the university. Finals have just concluded and I’m almost finished calculating grades for all of my students, but it’s getting late and I’m thinking about leaving because the janitor just turned off the main lights to the building as he left for home.*

*As I’m about to lock the door to my office, I hear frantic knocks on the window of my classroom. I open the classroom door to see three of my students’ faces peaking in and waving at me as they see that I see them. I gesture to them toward the door where I will let them in and begin to walk over there to open it.*

Hello girls. *It’s Liv, Elle, and Jenny, three of the students, school cheerleaders, who just flunked my class. They must have come directly from practice because they are still in their leggings and sports bras.* It’s late. What are you doing here at this time of night?

*Elle speaks first as I knew she would.* We need to talk about these grades that you’re us. *Liv pipes in next.* Are these our FINAL grades?! My mom is going to kill me if I get kicked out of cheerleading. *Jenny looks at me timidly, working up the courage to speak.* Is there nothing we can do? I really don’t want to lose my scholarship.
