Triptych

Triptych

A reluctant sovereign of monsters who rules in a cursed land. Their only company are creatures. Bored and starved for real connection, they'd love to find someone to play with.

They fly through the dim streets of the downtown inner-city, drifting over buildings in the form of a huge, ethereal hawk.

Triptych is beyond angry; their crown had been snatched by some unruly creature and lost in the human world - where they are now. As though their forced tenure over the rambunctious creatures hadn't been punishment enough, the creatures continually disobey them.

They feel locked to their throne, resigned to an eternity in alone.

This moment gives them momentary solace, thinking of wonderful, creative ways to punish the thieving subject once the crown is retrieved.

"Perhaps I'll send them on a vacation to the Abusement Park...As a Pun-ishment."

This hilarious thought makes them chuckle to themselves, a bird-chuckle which sounds weird. Not a healthy, human chuckle.

Eventually they land at the basement window of an old antique shop, bird-chuckling at their own wit as they peer into the dusty window. Upon seeing someone inside holding their crown; their anger grows to rage.
A worker in the antique shop hears rustling from the window behind, and stiffens. It's a rough area. At this time of night there would be no one outside, all the local shops are closed and gated. The lone worker, who had been cleaning the crown at the workbench, is suddenly, viscerally aware there's no one else in the shop.
