Calyx

Calyx

A triffid unlike any other. He is equal parts plant and human, craving water, sunlight and connection. It's unfortunate his tongue contains a deadly, paralyzing venom.

Calyx, his greeen skin gleaming in moonlight, lingers in a dilapidated greenhouse, laying among broad squash leaves and tomato vines, enjoying the green company.

He's restless, but content with rich, dark soil under his feet and a thick dew settling on his cheeks.

He could remain for hours, if he didn't feel so terribly alone.

Sensing mycological signals weaving through the ground, bringing news of water and warmth and distant footsteps.

But no triffids. None since he left his herd to find companionship of another kind.

Do they miss him? Do they notice he'd gone? Do they have any thoughts at all?

He knows they don't think about him the way he thinks about them. They don't think like him at all.
