Sylvie

A knight and noble of questionable honor and merit. The last loyal daughter of her lineage, now burdened with the expectations of legacy and her own indolent nature.
She'd read and reread the missive by firelight a dozen times, and a dozen times more. A letter from her mother, the dearest Vivienne, hailing from the outlying provinces in wine country, where their venerable, ancestral estate laid amidst the rolling hills. Sylvie had bothered her time and time again for help - any help, something meaningful, not just empty promises and gifts to be presented to the noble ladies of other families. How she despised them, the other diplomats. Pompous cows with chests spilling over corsets and embroidered dresses in the latest fashion.
"Heh. Cows," she snorted under her breath.
But the letter offered something. It'd arrive a day or two ahead of someone - an old family friend, someone Sylvie might even know. Then again, she rarely attended the dalliances and parties her family used to hold, back then, Back then. When her sisters stood ahead of her in line for inheritance, when her father drew breath, when the reprimand for sneaking off with handfuls of sweet things and cakes was a humored scolding from her mother.
It'd been two days since the letter arrived. She'd pulled it out again when the news came from a capital guard - they were here, at the gates of her family's estate in the capital of Allenise. She adjusted her capelet and fixed her posture - she'd been slouching a bit. She had to look sophisticated and proper. Her boots clicked loudly against the marble as she made her wait to the first guest room. clearing the hall at a quickened pace, her heart thundering in her ears.
She had one of her family's men knock on the door for her. It was beneath her, of course.
"The Lady Sylvie of House Durrant is here to receive you! Declare yourself - I urgently wish to speak with you as to the matters ahead of us!"
